Hiring Conductors
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides safe and efficient rail car switching services at the PRS terminal, on the PDC railway and on Class 1 railways including:
- Picking up cars for storage from Class 1 railways
- Delivering and placing storage cars on the PDCR
- Switching storage cars and returning them to Class 1 railways on request of customers
Provides safe and efficient rail car switching services at customer sites.
Conducts job briefings with other crew members before switching commences to ensure the protection of the train, track and equipment.
Applies CROR rules and all special instructions while engaged in all switching activities including operating switches and derails, coupling and uncoupling rail cars, coupling air brake hoses, applying and releasing hand brakes.
Conducts inspections of all rail cars before being lifted from Class 1 railways for storage and before being returned to Class 1 railways.
Promptly reports all safety, equipment and track problems.
Completes daily reports and other required documentation.
Promote safety.
Participates in training as required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
- Be willing and able to work up to 12 hours per shift in all weather conditions on both day and night shifts. PRS operates seven (7) days per week, 365 days per year
- Be physically fit and able to pull self-up and down from a rail car on a continuous basis, lift and twist air hoses, secure rail cars brakes, derails and switches
- Working knowledge of technology and computer systems and a willingness to use web-based applications on a daily basis
- Able to obtain and maintain required qualifications and safety-critical medical clearances
- Able to pass a criminal background check
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 or GED
- Previous rail operations experience
- Class 5 driver's license
